SG SF OPERATIONAL PROFILE

The SG SF was formed to assist the Stargate Special Operations Command in its design function - rapid-response support of deployed Stargate teams, and other defensive or offensive missions on- or off-world, against land-, air-, or space-based threats. The SG SF operates as an Army Special Forces team. With training in desert, mountain, small squad tactics and explosives, this team provides vision, leadership, doctrinal guidance, resources and oversight to ensure component special operations forces are ready to meet the operational requirements of combatant commanders Off-World. The SG SF provides a versatile, responsive and offensively focused force with continuous Off-World presence. As members of the Stargate Special Operations Command, all SG SF personnel are expected to maintain an extremely high proficiency levels as ground-combat troops, in order to be able to effectively participate in attacks on or capture of naval or spacecraft from enemy naval bases or carrier vessels.

SG SF UNIT HISTORY

While the SGC and its SG teams were tasked with exploring new worlds to acquire technology and establish alliances, the concept of a Special Forces component to augment these teams was born in the fall of 2001. Thus the first unit in this new command was the Army based SG Special Forces team. Whereas SG-1 remains the "flagship" team for the regular SG teams, the SG SF was the first Special Operations unit solely dedicated to the mission of the SGC. As an Army SF unit, their history draws upon a dedicated corp of US Army Special Forces operators. Seeking to ensure that the best trained and qualified members currently serving in the US ASF program, the SG SF drew members from a broad background of highly trained and dedicated Army SF operators currently operating throughout the world.. The team members trained for over a year in secret, before even they were briefed on the nature of their new command and mission to Defend the Homeworld.

Eventually the need for more teams with similar special skill sets would lead to the expansion of the SG SF concept. By the summer of 2005, the SG SF would be expanded into a more comprehensive, flexible and responsive Joint Forces Special Operations Command and renamed, SG-SOCOM. Since the expansion of the Special Forces concept, the SG SF has become the "flagship" Off-World Ops unit and have been proud to serve with distinction ensuring the protection of the Tau’ri.
