I volunteered for service in 1997 for delayed entry in
early spring of 1998. Received orders to report to MEPS (Military Entrance
Processing Station) in Charlotte, NC in preparation for Boot Camp.
After MEPS processing I was transported to Parris Island MCRD (Marine Corps
Recruit Depot) for training as a Basic Marine with orders to proceed to the
Twenty-Nine Palms facility in California for advanced MOS training.
Before completing Boot Camp I was injured and sent to
the Branch Medical Facility for treatment. Unknown to me at the time, an
assisting physician was also a member of the Stargate Program who was
present on Parris Island temporarily to consult with a colleague. Always on
the lookout for potential SG-SOCOM assets, the doctor (yes, Janet Frasier)
looked into my military file and personal history and saw something that
told her I was a prospect. To this day I have no idea what that was. I don't
really care (other than personal curiosity) because I feel fortunate to have
been chosen.
From there I was diverted to SG Command and learned
all that I needed to know from the best that the Stargate program had to
offer, which is also the best that the military has to offer. I haven't
included all of the details of my training because everyone on this team has
a similar training background. Also, the most important thing is the last
thing: I have made SG-SOCOM my career and my passion and have no regrets in
any way.
