The SGC handles all the day to day operations of the Stargate program from the Cheyenne Mountain complex.
Due to the high secrecy of the Stargate program and the constant danger of the loss of the
complex from an enemy attack, the Alpha site was formed to act as a back up in
a worst case scenario basis. Since it has
been operational it has proven it's worth time and time again. So the decision was made to construct
additional sites such as, Beta and Gamma. However the Omega Site
was designed to be able
to function not just as a back up site for the SGC as Alpha did, but rather as a full base of operations that would not need any support from
Earth at all.
Thus the concept of Omega as a true counter part to the SGC
began. After much deliberation and dedicated hard work, SGC-Omega's location was
decided upon and its construction began. SGC-Omega is located off-world on PX-2185728-J in the Namara solar system in the M66 galaxy. M66 is one of the three galaxies, that
form the Leo Triplett, which is located 35 million light years from Earth.
SGC-Omega is a long way from home and in the opposite direction of the current Alpha
site, which was done as an additional safeguard. While the SGC has rotated some
of its SG teams, most notably SG-2, to the
Omega Site, the SGC-Omega
maintains its own SG teams, as well as, a dedicated
SG-SOCOM team, SG-7 Omega. |

|
The Omega site, similar to the third Alpha Site, is set up like a larger
version of the SGC at Cheyenne
Mountain, and was also built inside a mountain complex. However, this
complex is meant to be able to sustain full off-world operations of the SGC in
the event that the Earth should fall into enemy hands or its forces destroyed.
The Omega Site, also boasts a full complement of defensive installations, as
well as, repair and manufacturing capabilities to ensure its own defenses and
ability to function independently should the need arise.
The main SGC-Omega complex is constructed underground with the facility mirroring that of the SGC of Earth in it's layout, but is twice as large. This is dew to the fact that SGC-Omega could be cut off from earth completely at any time, for an indefinite period of time if the gate room suffered a failure or the gate was not operational for any unforeseen reason. One advantage of the Omega Site complex's design is that unlike the Cheyenne Mountain complex, space had not been devoted to maintaining non NORAD or the IOA office space. Thus this facility if dedicated solely to the mission of the SGC and the defense of the homeworld. A secure one mile fenced off perimeter is surrounding the complex above ground. With limited structures around the base at this time for general scientific study' of the planet. An above ground barracks and commissary is capable of housing and severing 300 personnel at this time with no back up from the main complex below. Guard towers and early warning systems line the perimeter as well. At this time the underground SGC-Omega complex is finished and fully
functional, with the ability to support up to 1240 personnel. The standard
complement of on-duty personnel for the underground complex is 480 at any given
time. When the above ground base is competed it will be capable of housing 600
personnel at one time. |

The Omega Site has been equipped with a broad range of Asgard,
Goa'uld, and
Tollan technologies for defensive and offensive capabilities. In addition to
the Tollan ion cannons, the complex is also protected by Asgard shield
technology. The site is powered by several redundant Naqahdah Generators, as
well as, the capability to utilize ZPMs as a nearly unlimited power source. |

One of the four air-strips for the contingent of F-302's housed in the north - east hanger is completed with the second well under way. A small power station is located just opposite the two vehicle hangers on the south end of the base. At this time the vehicle hangers in the south end are only housing a few vehicles. As the SGC-Omega complex was designed to be a green base' that is to use environmental friendly power and fuel sources. So at this time there are only six standard hummers on base with the fuel for these vehicles being housed in a spacious pump house. The pump house is located between the two vehicle hangers, as it is designed so that the vehicles can drive in and fill-up with no danger of spillage on the bare ground. A series of redundant drains and filters have been designed catch any spills and keep them contained till they could be disposed of properly. |
